Hair loss treatment: Fruit known for its anti-inflammatory properties and preventing DHT

Saw palmetto is known for its anti-inflammatory effects on both the body and the hairline.

Experts hypothesise this aspect could offer hope in treating hair loss.

In a study published in the International Journal of Immunopathology and Pharmacology, the use of saw palmetto for hair regrowth was analysed.

The study found that saw palmetto helps inhibit an enzyme known as 5-alpha reductase.

A medication called finasteride uses this mechanism to treat hair loss in males.

The scientists found that by inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, finasteride blocked the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone which is a hormone responsible for male pattern hair loss.
